DRT PAR2 upgrade: 400GE support and backbone capacity upgrade

In order to address the traffic growth of DRT PAR2 over the last 18 months, additional capacity has been added. This PoP has now 600G of redundant capacity.

Moreover, a new 400GE line card has been installed, making this PoP 400GE-ready.

With this deployment, 7 PoPs now support 400GE interfaces. This upgrade enables substantial cost savings in optical transport by using 400G ZR optics, while also offering 400GE interfaces to customers looking to upgrade to this technology.

Deployment of Microsoft Connected Caches in regions

In order to bring more content to regions, a successful PoC was conducted during the summer in Lille to validate Microsoft Connected Cache solution. Caches are now in production. This deployment will be rolled out to Lyon/Aura and Toulouse regions in Q4 2024.

Automating network infrastructure

Following the deployment of the core components of our network automation framework, we have shifted our focus to integrating the CRM into the automation platform, which now supports the primary use cases. The upcoming steps will include the integration of main components of the billing system to enable complete end-to-end automation.

Feedback on 100G LR(1) adoption…

We started supporting and promoting 100G LR(1) single lambda optics over a year ago. We expected stronger adoption, the numbers speak for themselves—out of 50 deployed 100G ports, 47 optics are LR4. We believe that at some point, the market will shift towards 100G LR. Don’t hesitate to ask during your next 100G port deployment!

Figures

A few figures about Q2-2024:

  • New customer ports (including upgrades): More than 2.2Tbps of capacity connected and more 100G ports than 10G ports!
    • 10G: 15 ports
    • 100G: 21 ports
    • 400G: 0 port, coming soon slightly smiling face
  • Availability:
    • Lille: 100%
    • Lyon: 100%
    • Marseille: 100%
    • Paris: 100%
    • Toulouse: 100%
  • NOC service:
    • NOC tickets handled: 61
  • Outages:
    • Lyon/AURA – 19/09/2024: Inter-IXP is an historical route collection and distribution service available in AURA region. Over time, the legacy architecture of the Inter-IXP service and the filtering methods became outdated, creating some operational issues and side effects. That’s why the service has been deactivated temporarly to prevent more issues. Developments are ongoing, service will be reactivated during October and we plan some enhancements in the coming months with a complete overhaul of the inter-IXP service.
